Interlude: Become a Kindred Spirit đ
Want to support Kindred Spirits financially? Here's how you can do it
Hi there,
If someone hasnât already said this to you today: Weâre halfway through the year. Time flies, huh? And when it flies, it leaves reflection in its wake. Thatâs what Iâve been doing, too. Reflecting. And hereâs where that brings us:
Become a Kindred Spirit through a financial contribution đ
Kindred Spirits is a one-woman labour of love. I balance a full-time job, the role of the third parent (elder sister problems), and being a financial pillar for my family with this act of writing for you every two weeks. I love it very much, but like many things we love, it takes a lot of time, energy and resources.
International contributions:
Contributions within India:
When you become a Kindred Spirit by supporting me with a financial contribution, you help me offset the costs of infrastructure as well as make this venture equally rewarding.
Why financial contributions? Why not paid subscriptions?
Iâve been reading a lot about Substack lately, and a lot about the platform doesnât sit well with me. Iâm using it to send my newsletters for now, but I would not like to give them any financial support by way of a 10% cut (I also have to fork over 3% to Stripe).
Going the Buy me a Coffee route means there arenât any hidden charges for anyone. Iâm able to put the entire amount into bostering my software and infra in order to get the hell off this platform.
Paid subscriptions are recurring, and create free and gatekept premium sections. I would prefer to keep Kindred Spirits free and un-gatekept. With a separate link, youâll be able to support me financially as frequently as youâre able to, without losing access to any premium content (because there is no such thing). I also donât have to place ads that lead us all deeper into a capitalistic black hole.
This model is based on the idea that a few enthusiastic readers will be able to keep Kindred Spirits afloat for those who arenât financially able to support. It depends on the generosity of those who want to âunlock the commonsâ and stop good shit from being gatekept.
What will you get in return?
Youâll continue to receive all my newsletters â and theyâll get better as time goes on, as youâve created the wriggle room for me to spend more time on research, creating art, and writing better each time.
Each month, Iâll also plant a tree in the name of every Kindred Spirit whoâs supported me financially. As of now, I plan to do this through Reforest India, an organisation that began as one woman who planted 73,000 trees in her husbandâs memory.
The link to contribute is below and will be in every newsletter I send out from today. If you decide to support me by becoming a Kindred Spirit, I will be eternally grateful to you.
Warmly,
Sindhu
